South Coast Winery Resort and Spa

Sounds wonderful…doesn’t it?

I went out for lunch last week with my hubby to South Coast.  They have a restaurant all {my friends} rave about…Vineyard Rose.

Now, this wasn’t exactly the first time I had been to South Coast.  Remember this post?  When my parent’s were visiting last August, we drove around to {a bunch} of wineries…walked around, took pictures, and soaked up the scenery.  South Coast was one that we went to.  I have been wanting to go back ever since.

As you approach South Coast the beauty of the grounds envelops you.  Huge hanging baskets of flowers lining the vine-covered walkway {complete with enchanted lighting} draw you to the entrance, where you are greeted with the soothing sound of trickling water from the impressive tiered fountain.

Upon entering the tasting room, the warm architecture of a modern and grand Italian farmhouse greets you.  Think of {the historic} Medici Family having a country home…a Renaissance Farmhouse-Villa.  Soaring wood planked ceilings, an impressive set of carved wood doors, stained glass windows, and a cozy stone fireplace keep the atmosphere inviting in the large space.  There is a beautiful hand-painted mural that surrounds the tasting room as well.  And, for fun, if you liked this gargoyle, you might enjoy the company of Mr. Bobcat.  I wonder if he has a name?

An interesting fact about South Coast, they were named California Winery of the Year in 2008 and 2009.  WOW!  If that isn’t enough to woo you…maybe this will…

This is only a portion of the awards in their tasting room.  Amazing.

After exploring the tasting room and deciding we were much too hungry to taste wine before eating, we wandered to the restaurant, passing a really cute gift shop.  The size of the restaurant took us by surprise…it was {much} bigger than anticipated.  In addition to ample seating inside, they have quaint covered outdoor seating…you really get the feel for how large, and beautiful this winery is when seated outside.

We enjoyed our delightful meal and delicious glass of wine {I had the South Coast Zinfandel and amazing ravioli}, and decided to call it an afternoon.  We agreed we would come back again to {actually} taste wine and explore more.  I know the spa is calling my name!

And, true to my rooster obsession, I had to take a picture of this one to share with you all.

Here’s to taking time to enjoy the scenery…and sharing it with friends…Cheers! Salute!
