The Finale! Continued from last week.

The next day, while I was at work, my hubby carried the thirty sanitized bottles down to the basement, in preparation of the evening’s bottling event. That evening, I carefully siphoned the clear wine from the first carboy into the cleaned and sanitized second carboy, in preparation of bottling from the second carboy.
Our grandson soon came over and was rushing us to eat dinner quickly, so he could finally use the funky corking apparatus. We had an assembly line going: my hubby handed me the empty bottle, and I filled it with wine. I handed the filled bottle to my grandson, who corked the bottle, and he handed the corked bottle to grandpa, my hubby, to place the bottle back on the table.
The wine bottles had to stand ‘upright’ for three days, before being placed sideways into the wine rack. The bottling process went quickly and was fun, too, especially for our grandson. We ended up filling 29 bottles of wine. Hurray!
Three days later, I went to the basement and wiped each bottle clean and then placed a wine label on each bottle. The wine label reads “California Trinity Red” and is printed by the same company which made the wine kit. Then I placed the bottles sideways into the wine rack under the table on the basement floor, where the wine will rest for four to six months, before being tasted. I calculated the alcohol content of this wine to be 11.9%…this should be a good batch!
Well, I did it! I made my first batch of wine, and I now am able to cross that off my mental bucket list. Cheers to me!
I have decided to taste the wine on December 16, to celebrate my birthday and the achievement of making my first wine.
Since finishing my first batch of wine, my wonderful hubby thought about me and my next batch. He realized that in the winter months, I would not be able to wash the bottles outside, on my frozen, snowy patio. So, he bought a double-wide utility sink with cabinet that my son and grandson installed in the basement for me! Also, they hooked up a light above the sink and connected the new electric food-grade pump! I sure am blessed with a wonderful family.
Later, my son gave me a gift certificate to my favorite wine shop. What a good son! So, all alone, with the gift certificate and my credit card, I drove to the wine shop and selected my second wine kit…a white wine this time…an Australian Chardonnay, yum!
After the first batch…it is so easy…just like “making Kool-Aid”.
