With Fall quickly approaching, I decided it was time to make some changes in my décor! Since my Embellished Upcycled Wine Bottles were such a big hit, I decided to revamp them for the fall season.
What you’ll need:
3 empty wine bottles (vary the size and shape for added interest)
Spray Paint (I used Krylon Brushed Metallic, Satin finish, Champagne Gold color – Hobby Lobby)
Glitter! (I used extra fine glitter in Espresso and Copper Penny – Hobby Lobby)
A Cookie Sheet and/or Aluminum Foil (for easy glitter clean up)
Start with the spray paint. Give the bottles two to three light coats, letting them dry in between. Keep the coats of paint light so you don’t get any drips.
Next, decide on a design! I like to mix up patterns. Stripes and vines are very fall like to me, and I like the variance of structured stripes with the soft, floral, viney feel. So this is what I went with. Leaves would be nice too, maybe even spider webs if you want something more Halloween themed.
Place the first bottle on your cookie sheet lined with foil. Pretend the tacky glue is a pencil – “draw” a simple swirl, or vine, on the bottle with the glue. Keep in mind with the curved surface of the wine bottle, the glue might run if it is put on too thick. If that happens, simply fix it with your finger. Don’t stress about it being “perfect”! Handmade things are rarely perfect…that is what makes them fabulous. Do you remember my Herringbone painted Laundry Room?? It was not perfect, yet looked amazing. These will too!
Now grab your glitter and shake it all over the glue on the bottle. Let dry.
Move onto the next bottle, repeat the glue and glitter process with your next design. Get creative and have fun! I used blue painter’s tape on one bottle to create stripes. With a paint brush, I spread the tacky glue on. Then had fun glittering away! I was super excited about the stripes…until I pulled the tape off.
Sadly, the painter’s tape took some of the spray paint off. So…maybe don’t use painter’s tape. Instead, maybe draw a line with a pencil on the bottle as a guide for the glue if you want to create stripes. Or, just do what I did and simply touch up the paint after the glitter has dried.
When you are all done, clean-up is a cinch! Simply pick up the foil on the cookie sheet and gently pour the glitter back into its original container. If you use multiple glitter colors, do this in between sprinkling the different glitter colors.
These gorgeous Fall Inspired Wine Bottles will look great anywhere. On your mantle, dining table, entry table – anywhere you need a touch of fall!
